Senior Heritage Consultant

Location: UK / Remote
Salary: £36-47,000

We are seeking an experienced Senior Heritage Consultant to join our team. This position focuses on the delivery of high-quality heritage advice and assessments to support planning and development projects across the UK.

You will lead the preparation of complex technical reports, provide robust and defensible planning advice, and work closely with clients, planners, architects and design teams to manage heritage risk and enable sustainable development. The role suits a confident practitioner with strong analytical skills and a detailed knowledge of the UK planning framework for the historic environment.

You will work within a close-knit team, sharing good practice, ensuring quality and mentoring junior colleagues.

 

The role will include:

  • Preparation of technical heritage assessments for planning and EIA projects, including:

 o   Heritage Statements and Statements of Significance

 o   Heritage Impact Assessments

 o   Environmental Statement chapters (Cultural Heritage)

  • Assess significance and setting of designated and non-designated heritage assets using recognised methodologies.

  • Provide proportionate, evidence-based advice.

  • Identify heritage constraints, risks, and opportunities early in the design process and propose pragmatic mitigation strategies.

  • Undertake site inspections, archival research, and baseline data collection.

  • Contribute to appeals, hearings, and inquiries where required.

  • Manage multiple projects concurrently

  • Prepare scopes of work and fee proposals

  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams

  • Maintain and grow client relationships and identify follow-on opportunities

 

About you:

  • Degree in Archaeology, Heritage, Built Heritage/Conservation, Planning, or related discipline.

  • Demonstrable experience producing high-quality technical reports for planning applications and EIA.

  • Strong understanding of:

o   NPPF and PPG

o   Listed buildings, conservation areas, settings, and non-designated assets

o   Cultural heritage assessment within EIA

  • Proven ability to manage projects independently.

  • Commercial awareness and ability to manage budgets and deadlines.

  • IHBC and/or CIfA membership (desirable)

  • Full UK driving licence.
